The General Aviation Women Pilots of PFN along with Flight Deck and Sheltair Aviation invite women in aviation from all surrounding airports to take part in our Centennial of Women Pilots Celebration.
6-12 March –‘Centennial Celebration of Women Pilots’ Invitational
Women pilots will be taking other women on introductory flights to be added to the total weekly count. Visiting pilots are invited to stop by Sheltair Aviation to register and get your proof picture taken. Registered Pilots and passengers will receive participation certificates and discounted fuel prices. Our challenge is to get the most women in the
air at a given location throughout the week. We invite all area women pilots to join us!
7 March – From 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. A special ‘Salute to PFN and ECP’
The Panama City/Bay County Int’l Airport (PFN) has served the panhandle of Florida
for nearly 80 years with commercial airlines and general aviation. It will close with
the opening of the new Northwest Florida Beaches Int’l Airport, (ECP) in May 2010. A historical moment as we say good-bye to PFN and welcome our new airport across the bay. ECP is the first airport built in the United States in nearly a decade and will be the first environmentally constructed ‘GREEN’ airport. We will pay an all women tribute to PFN and welcome ECP with a a short distance flight from PFN along the beaches then across West Bay to ECP and back to PFN. Our PFN Tower will support our tribute with our one and only female air traffic controller! Challenge to see how many women we can have airborne during this time. This event will add to the Centennial Celebration total weekly count and is registered as unusual flight category.
8 March, 8:00 –12:00, 1:00 - 4:00 Centennial Celebration Aviation Career Day
Girls Scouts from our region will be visiting PFN throughout the day and will be given intro flights. Tours to the PFN Tower will be conducted and our younger generation will gain insight into various aviation careers. We invite women of all aviation careers to come and share with these young women. We hope to see representatives from aircrew, air traffic controllers, airline pilots, aviation mechanics, flight attendants, line services, Customer Service representatives and flight instructors. Also adding to the total weekly count, this event will be the Centennial Celebration total women in the air on this day, March 8, the 100 year anniversary date of the first woman receiving her pilots license.
